The Mistress

by Clare Hawkins

Stay awhile for we are young and sleep demands an ending,
Stay awhile while embers fade the sun will soon be rising,
And light may bring that striking shame of stripped bare limbs and yearning,
Stay awhile in the dying heat and soporific comfort

Stay awhile for cooled by day we'll drown in stark reflection,
Stay awhile those eyes once locked in binding wants regretful,
In whispered deceits and passionate pleas I moved my self against you,
Stay awhile and not ask more for darkness brings me peace
