All's fair in love and war

by duncan jones

If all is fair in love and war
Do poets and generals know the score?
Is love fought along strategic lines?
Do romantics encounter anti personnel mines?
Might majors fret about what to wear,
Hide their intentions not wanting to scare,
The focus of their secret desire.
Can lovers fall foul of friendly fire?
Intelligence work will have to be mounted
If loves defences are to be surmounted.
Some may peddle disinformation
To sabotage your organisation.
Does technology change the face of love?
Tried and tested methods receiving a shove.
From the printing press to the mobile phone
Their creators say if only I'd known.
A pair of start crossed lovers on a luxury cruise
Meet the Unknown Soldier, who asks them to choose.
Would you rather die from a missile that's smart,
Or fade slowly away with a broken heart?
