He Is Veg Patch

by Kate Tym

He's the veg patch
I'm the herbs
He's the lawn
I'm the pots
He's compost
And bins
And
For all my feminist leanings
I'm cleaning
And I'm shopping
Groceries and stuff for the kids
I'm the pets
Although he gets dragged in
To clean them out
When I'm not about
We both do bathtime
Me more than him
And bed time
And tucking in
Last thing
His chore
Lock the back door
We call it Homeland Security
He looks after me
And I he
I savour
Our division of labour
The salty sweet flavour
Of woman and man
Domestically
Matched
I am herbs
And he is
Veg patch
