Spider

by Paul Ambrose

You left me alone and facing the truth -
Love, sloppy old love
Lays reptile eggs for the careless.

It was love who killed the dinosaur -
Laying eggs like the cuckoo,
Sly in the crocodile’s eye
Love brooded a million years…

Now you leave me and I see love
Staring up with eight eyes -
A spider in the bath tub
Sizing me up and scuttling
Down the drain to divide the spills of war.
