The matriarch

by John Rowe

The Matriarch

Slipping in the rain
Is the soaking ache
Of her weight

Ugly business

"Eats what I wants"
"Eats what I needs"
"Eats what I craves"

And you're eating me
My love

I wish, I wish
I had been bunched
Under an umbrella

Eats too late

I'm pulled

The matriarch
Strains her way down
To drain
In the alley
