Brighton 9.12.06

by Siobhan Coleman

In Brighton
You threw us
Deep, down
Into the drink.
I could see it in your eyes
That clenched smile
You knew what you were doing
You had done this twice before.

You wanted to swim.
You wanted to throw yourself to
Howling winds as wide as your mouth
Hoping you'd be eaten
Up by knots stronger than
The ones in your heart.

You wanted to disappear.

You say you fall hard.
I say, fall on to those rocks
For me. Go on –
I dare you
Pick someone new this time
To fall for, to fail for.
