The Narrator and the Messenger

by Valerie Rubombora

I live as a narrator of life
(a what? did you say)
A narrator.
It means everything I feel
is not really real
because I'm just that,
A narrator.
My life is my source,
It's not really mine
they are my eyes
right. But they are my story.
Yes. Because I'm the narrator.
(Remember this emotion?)
Yes. When I feel pain,
It's not really me,
it's my subject-
I'm the narrator
(Why?)
because thats what I am
(what?) The Narrator.(why?)
Because I Am The Narrator-
(what?)THE NARRATOR THA-
T'S WHAT I AM THE NARRATOR!
I LIVE AS A NARRATOR OF LIFE
AN OBJECTIVE VIEW INTO A LIFE
THAT ISN'T MINE - INTO MY LIFE
I am just a narrator
(don't shoot the messenger)
What?
(the messenger.)
(I live as a messanger
of your life).
What?
(Yes. YOUR life)
I am a Narrator
(but this is your life)
Iamanarratorthisisnotmylife
Iamanobjectiveviewthisisnotmylife
(YOU ARE THIS LIFE!)
(DON'T RUN FROM REALITY)
(YOU ARE NOT A NARRATOR)
Then what am I?

An unusual poem, with some intriguing ideas expressed. Not sure it's as effective as a duologue though. Undermines the themes somewhat.
