Soldiers
by
York, UK
Why are we marching in circles?
We’re soldiers
We’re soldiers waiting for war
That’s what soldiers are for
Away from home at last
With the speed of an F16 jet
Making new brothers in arms
Our set enemies as good as dead
The surprise
It wasn’t meant for the young
We were commanded to
Don’t tell us it’s wrong
The quickness of bombs
Against the slowness of a desert day
The bigness of tanks
And the deathliness of grenades
The waiting and the action
The shooting and then rest
Death hidden in numbers
Away from home at last
Don’t look at his hands
Look at his head
Our new brother, his arms
A sight we won’t forget
Several more days and
Countless more dreams left to fight
Soon we’re on our way back
To be cuddled in the light
And we will watch the parades
And we will sing with the natives
But we won’t take off our shades
Why are we marching in circles?
We’re soldiers
We’re soldiers fighting some war
That’s what soldiers are for
