I FORGOT TO TURN 30

by Lisa Whatley

I was drunk on the sun,
Wild dogs played at my feet,
Insects annoyed my face.
I was high on the moon,
The skin on my knees hurt,
The dust thrashed around me.
I was tripping on a cloud,
And bubblegum stuck in my hair,
My clothes were gone.
I was speeding on the wind,
The lights hurt my eyes,
I couldn’t keep the conversation,
I forgot my birthday.
Because of the sun,
And the moon,
And the cloud,
But mostly because of the wind.
