You

by Shona Hicks

That first moment, fragile I was
A heart shattered into many pieces
Scattered, amongst forbidden tears
that hid behind a smile, convincing to most.
You saw me.
Lost in your eyes I saw wisdom,
I saw kindness
Your warm smile lifted me from depths
of despair
Your gentle words caressing their way to my heart
as I battled the barrier within
begging it to let trust in.
Your strong embrace,
wrapping me in a blanket of affection
I drifted, to a place where nothing could touch me.
Here I float, fears high as my heart exposed
Too late to let go, too soon to know
I surrender to the intensity of love.
