Poem - MAG Poetry Prize 2010
Tsunami
by
Managua, Nicaragua
Do not step into the sea for fun.
Try to show a little more respect
for people who by a wave were swallowed
and whose voices of anguish,
in a sea shell were recorded,
as they saw how terror surged,
dressed in foam.
Say a prayer the water will not erase,
as it did with the footprints
of a futile escape,
and since you cannot set
a cross in the water
as a remainder of the tragedy,
set it in the middle of a ship,
a big ship and let it go,
driven by the currents,
waiting for the victims
with the smile they had
the day before the tsunami hit them.

Well imagined, and a coherent metaphoric statement.
