Poem - MAG Poetry Prize 2010

Three deep we stand waiting,
an invisible shroud binds us together,
a pressure all carry of history being made.
Tell us there's a reason, so we can bear it
for those heavy with grief
and know helplessness in war.
We are the conscience of the nation,
our silence and dignity more eloquent,
more moving than words of clever orators
who sit in power around politics' table.
We beseech them to join us in one voice
and cry, enough, no more, no more.

Poignant. Very powerful ending. Not sure what "those heavy with grief and know helplessness in war" means - this weakens the middle section.
