Children of the Estate

by Merlene Fawdry Pugh

Children
of the council estate
grow resentful
in the shadow
of its reputation
tabloid sensationalism
of the darker side
creates conformity
for emerging self images
and stereotypes
street gang notoriety
a seductive role model
when everyday decency
is deemed unworthy of mention
by hungry media moguls.
