The Poetry Slam

by Dave Schofield

And to think you were just a fan at a slam
She said, as she held his hand.

Just a man watching as she read
Her poem about sand, hard men
And her distant land; she was from Iran.

And when all the others swore and slammed
She was calm, measured and timed
And at the end, the tears stung his eyes.

And to think you were just a fan at a slam
She said, as she held his hand.
