Poem - MAG Poetry Prize 2010
Let the law carve the mountain
by
London, UK
Let
the law carve the mountain
and
justice put to shame
Let
the rules form the landscape
and
clemency put to shame
Let
parliament dance in circles
listening
to an odd tune
Let
uniform hold the pillars
of
this white empty room
Best
intentions are gone
replaced
by pride and titles
Facts,
evidence and witnesses
leave
the truth alone
Empty
wards of honour
Shake
of hand is just a squeeze
Handful
of broken promises
packed
with drive of sleaze
Watch
your back and scratch some others
As
friendship turned to deals
Have
it all in writing and…
watch
the telling walls
Wisdom
of fair play had turned to acid
now
night became the time.
Warmth
and kindness left behind
as
winning is banging in court
