To a Soldier

by Tatum Dunn

Turn your sword tip to the unforgiving ground
And pray your heart is harder than this
Keep your breastplate shined fast
So that you startle the comets ego from the dark skies
Wear your helmet tight so that only your eyes
Can seek death on this day of endings
Steady the silence with your raised shield
And wait for the drums to waken chaos
But be sure to drag sorrow by her hair
And hire hope to steal luck from your enemies
For behind you is a past that is quiet and still
I have made time wait
Because in all this
Through all of this
I am your home
