Religion

by Carroll Miles

Before the written word was around,
Mankind planted seeds in the ground.
Some flourished; some did not.
Weather also could destroy his crop.

He sought out power to take control.
This led to the concept of the soul.
Tribes were blamed when all went wrong.
Forcing prayers to a god all day long.

Some created idols to die for.
Others banned such and declared war.

For thousands of years people lived and died,
for idols or not, for gods or God.

And now some say they hold the key,
for all of our eternity.
These claim if you are not a believer,
Against their god you are a deceiver.
By their rules you must abide,
Or they will plan your genocide.
