Fish Art

by James Kloss

How horribly powerful it is
to act as an arbiter of art.

Referee of wind
    judging snowflakes' bodies
    assigning arbitrary values to
    beautiful deformities.

A painted reef exists quietly
    under turquoise water
    unseen, unheard
save by a handful of tropical fish
    for whom nothing is art
    and art is nothing.

They only swim there
    like tulips.
