by Tracey Waterhouse

Show me a door and I will not close it
Show me a path and I will wonder down it
Show me a meal and I will devour it
Show me dirt and I will clean it
Show me a box and I will fill it
Show me the time and I will not waste it
Show me the light and I will revel in it
Show me money and I will spend it
Show me your heart I will most likely break it
Show me how to give you love and not taint it
Show me how to have patience and give it
Show me how to move forward and not be stuck in a moment of it
Show me how to give and not take it
Show me how I can deliver promises
Show me how life is truly fine
Show me that I have you for all time
Show me how I can manage a lover such as you
Showing me is something you cannot do.

Judges' comments on this poem

Good idea! The repition captures the tedium clearly haunting the narrator. Some of the lines, however do not seem to fit conceptually.
