War on Words

by JANE SCOBLING

Lead-filled columns

Sear like pox marks.

Join like chain mail

Lines of obedience

Awaiting instruction.

Raw red and fresh green.

Fierce and fearful

Still and still again.

The silence breaks

Time to pause

Now alert

Ready for action,

“Aim and fire.”

Strong lines that deserve re-reading. Good imagery. I can feel the tension building, maybe an expanded version could enhance it.

I liked the boldness of this one.
