side-effects

by Stewart Heath

Womb to tomb
engrave the date,
The side-effect of birth
is Fate;

Heaven hath
Hells' heartfelt woe,
The side-effect of high
is Low;

Blackened heart
green eyes create,
The side-effect of love
is Hate;

Ghosts abound
or so they seem,
The side-effect of sleep
is Dream;

Tick-tock hands
adjoin too late,
The side-effect of time
is Wait;

Drag the air
with one last breath,
The side-effect of life
is Death.
