Dreamcatcher

by Elaine Holmes

This morning I chased a dream
Whilst it grew fainter,
Ghostly in the light of dawn.
It danced across my mind,
Tiptoeing here and there
With tantalising promise of a half forgotten world,
More meaningful than I could grasp.
A fog of consciousness
Flooded the depths of my inner spirit.
I fought hard to recall
The face of the messenger
That came to visit me last night.
And then in a memory crack, I found it -
A beautiful tarnished memory of timeless past-future.
I dusted it down gently and savoured it,
Cherishing its beauty.

I swear I saw an angel
Standing at the crossroads of  silver cloud paths,
Looking for all the world
Like he was carrying the weight of humanity
On his shoulders.
And as I stood there gazing on him
He turned and half smiled,
A sad and soul-piercing smile,
Before flying feather-light
Towards the sun like Icarus.

I like 'timeless past-future' and 'silver cloud paths'. I like the focus on the dream-world

The metaphors in this are really beautiful. At the end, I am left wondering who your angel is.
