The Creator

by Kim Lofthouse

Grey concrete -
Blank and begging
To be transformed
Into a life,
A story yet untold.

She stands
Poised for action.
Eyes tight shut.
A paintbrush,
And a pen in her hand.

Quick flick.
The first stroke,
Black line on paper.
Is it words?
Or is it a picture?

Only time will tell.

Judges' comments on this poem

Poem creates a setting and image wonderfully. Would have liked to learn more of "she" though. Prosody may have helped this poem out.
