Boy Remembered

by Andrew Smith

MY Boy smiles at me
A smile of informed majesty
Full of love and mischief too
Of life and reverie
Impish looks of innocence
A paradox in every sense
These are the golden years
To cherish and remember
As August turns to September
Like a far away ship
Seen from a sandy shore
Departing to return no more
Alas if only time stood still
This moment I could sever
To hold this child within my heart
To last and live forever
But time goes on its endless way
And I thank God for just this day

Judges' comments on this poem

Nice sentiments, but a few too many cliché images. Would be ok as a personal gift to the person concerned.

Overly sentimental and somewhat trite. Reads like a poem in a Hallmark card.
