An urgent rush

by John Fry

I took my time
Around me the world had an urgent rush
Slowly my mind lived
The world that day
No stairs but hills to climb
Mountains of life
Acres of grime
But very little time
That day
And the world had an urgent rush
I looked out on that busy day
Of humanity
Rushing
Not afraid
Unaware
Of what was happening to me
My fear rose inside
As I stood, and felt the crush
The urgent rush
As my mother passed away
