Rest in Peace

by Mark Risner

There are few more pleasurable ways
to wile away the days,
than to wake at mid morn,
yawn,
and, in a lazy haze role over
onto the other shoulder.
To nestle into the quilt and wilt
 into some unconscious
 meandering of the mind.

Yet there are of course different horses,
for different courses,
and those who chose not to indulge
in this bottomless, restful, pleasure,
but instead endeavour to seek leisure
in some other measure:
perhaps an early morning run,
before the rising sun.

For them, a mid morning slumber
is one of a number
of consternations,
as they are without appreciation
of the more subtle grays of existence.
Instead, they prefer resistance
to that velvet comfort of
release…
May they Rest In Peace.

I liked this one. Somewhere between drole and reflective, possibly would be better as all-out funny, almost Milliganesque, n'est pas?...

Very good, nice rimes. Good use of line breaks and tension, excellent last line.

Should be roll over not role over.
