A Lovely Day to Die

by Vince Horsman

            A lovely day today
            A lovely day to die
            A funny grey today
She has cardiac failure, I fear
Mumbled replies, so difficult to hear
Meaning impaired through aged, missing teeth
Lips tinged blue from faltering, failing breath
Breathing slows with long, alarming gaps
Draining her, and so the life-force saps
As I sit tearful by her bed
I look outside as these thoughts fill my head
            A lovely day today
            A lovely day to die
